Mike is a lead designer who has been with JM Kitchen and Bath Design since 2010 and has been in the business for more than three decades. His previous role was serving as a kitchen designer at Wedgewood Custom Cabinetry, but was intrigued by the opportunity to join JM, which he calls a prestigious, successful company that carries “incredible buying power” from top suppliers and has a roster full of top designers.
Mike grew up as a woodworker and loved building cabinetry and furniture. He parlayed that skill into starting a custom cabinet shop, which he owned and operated for 23 years. Today, at JM Kitchen and Bath Design, he employs his “visual thinking” talents to be able to look at an existing space, visualize a wall being gone, move components around in his head, and then communicate that to his customers so they see the vision.
When embarking on a project, the first thing Mike does is look and listen. He’ll observe existing furniture, artwork, and current living conditions. He’ll listen to customers likes and dislikes of their current space. And then Mike applies his many years of experience to design a space that meshes with their clients wishes and gives them a design that looks and functions amazingly well. He works by the motto, “Good form follows good function. If you have good function on how things work in your new space, then it’s going to be beautiful.”
Mike takes pride in having the ability to positively affect people’s lives through the design of their kitchen or bath to make their lives easier and more enjoyable.
His many years of experience have taught him that “preparation makes good projects”. Mike prepares customers for the pitfalls that can inevitably happen during renovation projects and uses his expertise to mitigate issues before they become larger. He brags on his design assistant, Jacque, who expertly manages the details of every project, affording him the ability to focus his time and expertise on design and serving his customers.
Mike is a third-generation Denver native. He’s been married to wife Julie for nearly 30 years and together they have two grown children. “My family is my anchor,” he says.
Outside of work, Mike keeps busy working on various projects around his acreage property, which is complete with barn, horse, and donkey. He also enjoys the outdoors and riding ATVs in the mountains.
